Classroom Management Philosophy

The classroom climate I work to cultivate is one that makes students feel safe and supported. It is important to involve the students, parents, and school in establishing a positive tone that will encourage students to learn. I believe that the best way to do this is by being effectively prepared in content and strategy, by setting high expectations for students, and by believing in their individual abilities to achieve. In terms of behavior management, I wish to involve students in establishing classroom routines and attitudes which are preventive instead of reactive. In doing so, students in my classroom will feel a personal sense of responsibility to themselves and to their classroom community. When issues do arise, however, it is important to be fair, firm, and consistent in following through with agreed upon consequences so that the purposes and values of these expectations are understood. Above all, I believe in the creation of an encouraging and constructive environment through the establishment of positive student-teacher relationships.
